In congruence with our guiding statements and definition of high quality teaching and learning, Westview demonstrates a strong commitment to ongoing evaluation benchmarks, in order to measure our student achievement data against international standards and both local and world averages. We rely on a number of educationally-sound external assessment tools, which we use to evaluate the success of our academic programmes; and as a springboard to student progress goals, accommodations and interventions. These include: NWEA MAP, WIDA and IELTS.

NWEA MAP

NWEA is a research-based, not-for-profit organization that supports students and educators worldwide by creating assessment solutions that precisely measure growth and proficiency—and provide insights to help tailor instruction. Administering MAP Growth tests at least twice a year provides an additional data point for each student, resulting in a more complete and stable picture of student performance. Student scores are placed in a percentile range against US schools as a means of comparison; and our teachers and administrators at Westview use MAP data to identify student academic growth needs and projected targets. Finally, we also use MAP results as a means of special recognition for students who perform well over the year in our three dedicated testing sessions.

WIDA

WIDA MODEL (Measure of Developing English Language) is a suite of English language proficiency assessments for grades K-12. As a flexible, on-demand language proficiency assessment, WIDA MODEL can be administered at any time during the school year, depending on the needs of the school, teacher or student. Educators use these results, along with other WIDA resources, to make decisions about students’ proficiency with English in academic contexts and to facilitate their language development. WIDA Language Development Standards can help teachers integrate language development and content learning appropriate to the grade level and proficiencies of their students.

IELTS

IELTS is an English language test for study, migration or work. Over three million people take IELTS tests every year. IELTS is accepted by more than 11,000 employers, universities, schools and immigration bodies around the world. An authentic IELTS score is generally one of the necessary conditions for students who seek to study abroad, particularly in Ireland, Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Singapore, and New Zealand. At Westview, we aim to prepare students to achieve IELTS score of at least 5.5 upon completion of Grade 12.
